Activity breaks

Action Activity Breaks are residential holidays for children and young people, aged 8 – 17 years, who have sight loss and have a good ability to understand and follow instructions. Our activity breaks give an opportunity for children and young people to meet other people of a similar age, with sight loss. For some this could be the first time that they meet and share experiences of this kind with their peers. Not only do the breaks provide a great opportunity for improving social skills, they also encourage personal independence, and help teach new life skills. With our help and support everyone is encouraged to meet new challenges, and achieve their personal goals.

To take part, applicants should be:

  • Aged between 8 and 17 years with a visual impairment
  • Willing to try new activities
  • Reasonably independent in self-care and mobility skills
  • Keen to meet new people

We try to make all our activities accessible to everyone, but there may be some occasions when an activity may not be suitable due to an individual’s specific needs. Previous experience of any of the activities isn’t important, but everyone should be prepared to ‘have a go’.

Please take a look at the venue and your travel requirements before you book, to check that the location is suitable for you.

How to apply

The closing date for applications is Friday 28 April 2017.  Our activity breaks are very popular and we receive many applications. You must apply directly to the Action contact for the break you would like to attend.

How are places allocated?

Priority is given to first time applicants. Action will try to ensure a balance of gender, ages and levels of sight loss and this will depend on the accommodation available at the centre.

It is essential to fill all parts of the form fully and accurately. Incorrect information could lead to a cancellation. Please ensure you provide as much information as possible so that we can plan suitable provision to support the needs of the activity break and ensure a safe and happy holiday for everyone.

Care and welfare

We have a high standard of policy and procedures in place to safeguard the

welfare of all children and young people on our events. All venues have been

carefully selected and checked for suitability and safety. Our policies and procedures are available on request.
